GDPR for small businesses

One of the most common myths is that GDPR did not apply to small businesses which is simply not true. Even if your business is just you then GDPR applies.

Now lets be clear the expectations are not the same for small businesses as they are for larger ones but the basics still need to be applied and documentation still needs to be completed.

The truth is if you have the time and the energy you can do all of this yourself without my help. Simply visit www.ico.org.uk and you can find out everything you need to comply.

GDPR for Small Businesses

Yes it applies to you

Yes GDPR applies to your small business no matter how small.

Is GDPR only for Limited and Partnerships?

No, The Ico considers all self employed and Freelancers as small businesses and GDPR applies.

Do I still have to register with the ICO?

Yes, you should at at least try. Only a very rare business that does not store or process any personal data  does not need to register but should still try.

Do I have to complete all of the documents?

Ideally yes, however as a minimum you should have privacy polices for your website, staff and contractors also data mapping, Retention schedules, and Impact assessments.
