In this blog I will explore why I feel Content Marketing is here to stay.
I am a content marketing fan, which might make this blog a little biased. So this is not a balanced view but one of someone who loves content marketing.
Some marketing fads come and go. New technologies have and will continue to disrupt the buying process and make things easier, simpler and faster.
While print is slowly declining it will not die, there will always be examples of where it can and will be effective. Other types of marketing such as advertising again may be declining or at least evolving but one form of marketing is here to stay…content marketing.
I believe this because the premise of great teaching and giving people the answers to their questions will never die. What content looks like might change and evolve but the basic premise is here for good.
The technologies involved may change and the types of content may change too but the same principals will always apply.
Content marketing is in fact been around for hundreds of years if not thousands.
Caveman paintings and the Bible can both be considered forms of content marketing, both were used to teach and inform and used the best technology that was available at that time.
What will content marketing look like in the future? With the big tech giants seemingly betting on virtual reality and hologram technology it would fair to assume a more immersive experience can be expected. I am not sure that it is right round the corner yet, but I am certainly keeping an eye out for any opportunities.
The truth is there is still loads of industries waiting for someone to come in and own their space and be the thought leader, the company that creates all the amazing content and answers all the questions people have.
Even if someone is already doing it does not mean you should not be teaching your own audience and your own customers.
There will always be new tech and new ways of consuming content and that will require great content marketers to teach and answer all of these questions.
Now you can start creating this content which will put you firmly in the thought leaders position or you can leave it for your competitor to own the space and collect all the leads and in the end your customers. Dont believe me? Lets see in the next 4-5 years how it all pans out.
Regardless of the technology, creating useful, valuable, entertaining, inspiring and just amazing content will always be order of the day. What that content will look like is anyone’s guess.
So if your thought content marketing was possibly a fad, I just don’t see it. Great teaching will always be required.
